Product Manager, Platform

We believe customer obsession builds the best products, so our mission is to ‘enable product teams to make better decisions through the power of customer understanding’. Our product-led growth strategy has seen us expand to thousands of customers like VMware, Shopify, GitLab, Porsche, Canva, and more.

We have an ambitious vision to build and deliver multiple new products to our customers over the next 12 months. Our platform team enables all of our product teams to efficiently and consistently deliver customer value at scale. We're looking for an experienced technical Product Manager to lead this team, work side-by-side with our engineers on large technology decisions, and be a key contributor to our multi-product strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Be customer-obsessed. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. You'll spend hours a week speaking directly with our product teams to build empathy for them and their customers. You will develop a deep understanding of our market, customer personas, how they work, their pain points, macro trends, etc.

  • Own your roadmap. You will work closely with our Head of Product to define your vision and strategy, but ultimately it is yours to own and drive. You're able to think strategically through product team needs, business opportunities and technical challenges when creating your roadmap. You are constantly striving to strike the right balance of innovation, product performance and core product improvements.

  • Partner closely with product teams. Each product team will have a point of view on the platform team roadmap. You will work closely with the Head of Product to define what work should be owned by the platform team and what should be owned by each product team as we scale. Managing competing priorities across many teams and clearly communicating your decisions and rationale will be critical to your success in this role.

  • Be exceptionally pragmatic. We believe a great product person is pragmatic. You'll need to make the right tradeoffs to keep moving forward by balancing a variety of inputs; including analytics, qualitative research, and customer feedback from our sales and support teams. If you're particularly dogmatic about one thing (e.g. quant data), it won't work.

  • Be able to think big, but start small. At Dovetail we set lofty goals and have a bold, exciting vision for our product. You are able to build your own vision for our platform team, and get your teammates and internal stakeholders excited about it. This is balanced by your ability to sweat the details and push the product forward one day at a time.

  • Partner with engineering. You are highly collaborative in your approach, and work closely with your engineering team members. You make sure everyone is brought along the journey of product discovery and exploration, and support the daily decisions required to build great products efficiently at scale. You are constantly building customer empathy with your team.

  • Be accountable for product quality. You're accountable for ensuring we always deliver a world-class product experience. We expect you to raise the bar and coach your team on why a great product experience is important, and what sort of things we need to do to build and maintain a world-class product.

Your background

  • Strong product management experience. You have several years of experience owning a product roadmap and executing against it. You've experienced the ups and downs of shipping brand new product features, learning from feedback and iterating on your strategy.

  • Strong technical background. You have the technical background needed to understand and prioritize the needs of developers, not just customers. You have shaped the vision and strategy for a scaling technology platform. You have experience evaluating new technologies and making technical decisions with engineering leaders. You have experience defining platform team strategies.

  • Experience working closely with product teams. We expect you to jump right in and collaborate with our product managers, designers and engineers. You've had experience working in the weeds with product teams in making tough priority tradeoffs and helping them set product strategy.

  • Stakeholder management. You have significant experience balancing the needs of many internal stakeholders and clearly articulating your decision making process to product managers, designers and engineers. You have managed complex

  • Clear communicator. We expect you to take big, ambitious ideas and distill them down into concise, exciting talking points. You have demonstrated the ability to get buy-in on your ideas, strategies, and plans across many teams and functions.

  • Pragmatism. We're looking for someone who can wear multiple hats across the entire lifecycle of product exploration, launch and adoption. You have a proven track record of making tough tradeoffs and rallying a team through difficult challenges.

  • Experience with B2B SaaS products. You understand product led growth strategies for B2B SaaS products.
