Product Marketing Lead

We believe in building incredible software that's affordable, easy to use, solves customer problems, and that our customers can try for free and buy themselves. We're inspired by companies like Atlassian, Canva, Datadog, and Slack who have built amazing products with incredibly sales-efficient businesses. This product-led growth strategy has seen us expand to hundreds of customers like Shopify, Boston Consulting Group, VMware, GitLab, and more.

We've achieved all of this from Sydney, Australia – with a rapidly growing team. We've recently raised capital to accelerate this growth, with backing from Australia's leading VC firm, Blackbird Ventures (investors in Canva and SafetyCulture), and by US-based Felicis Ventures (investors in Adyen, Shopify, and Notion).

In early 2022 we will be establishing a presence in San Francisco to enable us to better serve our global customer base. You will join as the founding team outside of Sydney and you will be critical contributor in developing our local presence, office culture, and fuelling our growth in North America. We expect to be able to have someone start in this role from January 2022.

We're looking for a Product Marketing Lead to work closely with our product, marketing and revenue teams to drive and execute our strategy. You will define how product marketing works at Dovetail and will grow the small team to execute. We're looking for someone that can roll up their sleeve to get the jobs done, as well as plan for the future.

To learn more about the Dovetail journey, listen to this episode of Blackbird Ventures' Wild Hearts podcast. If you need more convincing on the opportunity for Dovetail, check out Andreessen Horowitz' piece on The Market for User Research Platforms.

Who you’ll work closely with

Susan Perry
Head of Marketing

What you’ll do

  • Own messaging and positioning. We are creating a new category of software that helps researchers and their teams develop a new level of customer understanding. You will own how we position the product in market, define our value proposition and the language we use in marketing material, within the product, and in internal discussions.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our market and customer. We are a customer obsessed team, but you will take this to an entirely new level of understanding. You will define customer personas, prioritize their biggest challenges, define segments, understand purchasing behaviors and research competing offerings. The team will look to you as the voice of the customer.

  • Grow our product marketing function. You will recruit, develop and mentor the product marketing team to ensure we meet the needs of the growing product team and strategy. You will define the ways of working, implement frameworks and principles to guide the Product Marketing team.

  • Support product launches. Our product team moves fast so we constantly have exciting new features to share with our customers. Your team will write blog posts, help articles, create launch materials for our sales team, write email newsletters and communicate with our rapidly growing Slack community to support these launches. You also know that a product launch is just the beginning and will support continued adoption of features as our team improves them.

  • Drive cross-functional strategic projects. You will lead and drive cross-functional strategic projects. You'll influence and bring together the team, collaborating with others to translate strategic opportunities into deliverable projects. You will measure and report on the business impact of such projects.

  • Partner with our product and revenue team. Be a close partner with our product, design, and revenue teams. You'll contribute to our product strategy, how we prioritize features, and be a constant advocate for our customers. You'll influence and partner with these functions to drive alignment on company-level goals, projects, and activities.

  • Enable our go-to-market teams. Support our growing sales and customer success team. Identify and deliver assets, programs, campaigns to accelerate our self-serve acquisition, including webinars and pre-recorded demos. Prepare and drive enterprise cases studies as sales enablement material, drive partnership opportunities and support analyst relations.

  • Data-driven decision making. You will be accountable for defining, measuring, and reporting on metrics related to the marketing of our product. You'll use these metrics to influence business priorities and drive cross-functional alignment on business opportunities and projects.
