Senior Financial Accountant

With strong ongoing business growth we're now looking for Financial Accountant join Dovetail's growing Finance team. This will be an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself within our Financial Accounting practices and get exposure to a rapidly scaling business.

This role would suit a passionate accountant interested in making their mark in a growth stage SaaS startup. In the next few years, we have high aspirations to build out a world class finance function at Dovetail, and we're looking for a superstar to join us and be a core member in the journey.

What you’ll do

  • Administer payroll and related tax compliance reporting. You'll partner closely with our People team to support key payroll processes. These include supporting with accurate onboarding, preparing pay-runs for our international employee base (currently Australia and US), and managing payroll data and related tax lodgements.

  • Core member for finance close activities. You'll work closely as part of a tight knit team on closing the monthly financials, and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial outputs. You’ll have direct exposure and opportunities to support with financial consolidation, and preparation of financial statements.

  • Administer ESOP and manage share based payments. You’ll support with administering and scaling our equity share option plan (ESOP) processes, including new issuances, and facilitating exercising. You’ll also be involved in managing our Share Based Payments methodology and accounting treatment.

  • Software capitalisation. You'll lead initiatives to implement our software capitalisation framework and overhead re-allocation processes. This will require a high degree of cross-functional collaboration with Product teams, whilst also managing key accounting inputs including the methodology, data inputs and postings.

  • Build scalable processes and systems. As someone actively involved in workflows, we'll look to you to challenge the status quo and be a part of building out lean and efficient workflows. Part of this will include incrementally building our accounting playbook.

  • Anything else that comes our way! We're a high growth startup and there may be additional opportunities to roll up sleeves and work on other key business initiatives (e.g. budgets/forecasting, R&D tax incentive claims), especially whilst we continue to build out our Finance team.

Your background

  • You love accounting! You'll have completed or are currently working towards your CA or CPA qualifications, and have at least 4 years experience ideally in a financial accounting, tax or a private clients advisory role. A background working in SMBs or high growth startups would be a plus.

  • Payroll experience. You’ll have demonstrated experience working with key payroll processes including onboarding new employees and contractors, processing pay-runs, superannuation contributions, NSW payroll tax, IAS lodgements and PAYGW instalments. Payroll experience for US entities would be a plus.

  • Working experience with finance systems and tooling. You’ll have expertise and familiarity with our payroll/HRIS systems (Xero Payroll, Gusto, BambooHR) and working knowledge of ERP accounting systems such as Xero and/or Netsuite.

  • Great communicator. You’ll be able to breakdown and clearly articulate accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders. This will include actively listening to and engaging team members who interact with accounting process.

  • High attention to detail. You'll thrive in a high paced environment and being a quick learner. However financial accuracy is incredibly important, so you'll need to be thorough and precise when reviewing records or high volume transactions and preparing information for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Not afraid to challenge status quo. You'll feel comfortable in unpacking our ways of working, and challenging the status quo with a continuous improvement and scaling mindset.
