As Dovetail continues to grow, there’s now a need for a dedicated finance role to join our Business Operations team. This role will bring our finance in-house and will make and support decisions that enables the business to scale quickly. We’re looking for someone who’s excited by the opportunity to be part of establishing a finance team from scratch, and tackling diverse technical and strategic accounting problems.
As the first dedicated hire in Finance at Dovetail, you'll be responsible for:
All aspects of financial control. Everything from and including revenue accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations and managing our fixed asset register. You'll work closely with Kanav, our Business Operations Manager, to set up processes and systems to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Ensure Dovetail is always audit ready.
Financial and tax compliance. From GST reconciliations to quarterly BAS and annual tax lodgements, you'll be responsible for ensuring we're compliant in each jurisdiction from which we operate (currently NSW, Australia and Texas, USA).
Payroll and Employee Share Scheme. Ensure our employees are paid on time and own administration of our employee stock option plan, including managing cap table, NTA valuations, and compliance with ATO Employee Share Scheme requirements.
Management accounting. Own cashflow modelling including runway projections, the budgeting and reforecasting cycles. Prepare information on SaaS metrics and insights for internal company events, board meetings, and shareholder updates.
Supporting treasury management. Be involved in execution of future capital raises, own financial due diligence, and handle ongoing investor information requests and requirements.
Cross-functional collaboration. Own and work closely with our Product team to drive filings of R&D claims and support sales operations with credit control.
Provide ad hoc strategic support. From international expansion to office footprint and headcount growth, we may look to you to provide additional financial insights to validate company direction.
You're a numbers person. You strive in spreadsheets and building systems and love geeking out over technical accounting, tax, and management accounting. Ideally you're CA qualified (or equivalent) with 4+ years experience in a financial control and / or tax based role. Experience in a high growth SaaS startup is desirable.
Excellent eye for detail. Being detailed oriented is one of your strengths and you value quality assurance. You are good at noticing small but important things that may pass under the radar in a high growth environment.
Pragmatic problem solver and self-starter. While you're a genius going deep with INDEX matches and VLOOKUPS, you're able to zoom out and prioritise expertly. You'll understand that 'firefighting' is a reality of startups and not every problem is immediately solvable.
Transparent communicator. We're open by default including in how we share financials and business performance with all employees. Honest, thoughtful, and transparent communication is critical to our success as a business. You'll need to build strong relationships with people across the team and be a trusted business partner.

Nice to haves. Working experience with financial and revenue systems such as Stripe and Xero. Experience with SQL would be advantageous.
