Organize and share collections

Collections is an entirely new way to save, curate, and remix research findings. It’s a bit like Pinterest for your research data and findings — now you and your team can quickly find, save, and organize all kinds of data in Dovetail, from a specific interview to a series of video highlights containing relevant key quotes. Collections are global, which enables you and stakeholders to uncover and categorize research themes from multiple projects, past and present. Anyone on your team can create and share collections, including free viewers.

Add references to collections

No matter where you are in Dovetail, you can easily add references to an existing collection or create a new one by simply clicking the Add to collection heart icon in the top right corner of the reference card.

  1. Hover on the reference card.

  2. Click the Add to collection heart icon.

  3. Name your new collection or select an existing collection to add the reference.

  4. Repeat this to add more references, or click Go to collection on the modal in the lower right corner of your screen.

You can also bulk select and add highlights, notes, tags or insights to a collection.

  1. Go to the relevant highlight, note, tag or insight page.

  2. Select all items that you would like to add to the collection.

  3. Click Add to collection on the modal at the bottom of the screen.

  4. Click Go to collection on the modal in the lower right corner of your screen.

Create new collections

In addition to the creating collections by adding Dovetail references, you can also start a new blank collection.

  1. Click the + Create button in the upper right corner.

  2. Click New collection.

  3. Use the block editor to add new references and organize your content.

Finding your collections

Collections can be found under the Recent tab.

  1. Click Recent in the top navigation.

  2. Click on the Collections tab.

  3. See a grid of all collections you have recently interacted with.

  4. Click the collection you would like to view or organize.

Collections can also be found via global search. Search for the name of the collection or any content within the body of the collection.

Organizing your collections

Organize content with the block editor to tell stories with your collections. This editor allows you to add references to Dovetail objects, insert images and illustrations, organize content into multi-column layouts, add sticky notes, structure your story with headers and much more.
